When China’s most famous MMA event needed a partner to take on the largest indoor LED screen in Asia, they chose Mixon Digital. It was the perfect opportunity for us to innovate and push boundaries. For the venue, we established a clustered graphics system that rendered over four times the standard 4K resolution, all in real-time, pairing larger-than-life live streams with epic sponsor displays. Each fighter received signature animations throughout the tournament, building excitement for walk-outs, matches, and the champion reveal. Our stunning 3D map of China highlighting regional matchups was popular with fans proud to cheer for their hometown heroes. The live displays rendered in three-dimensions, allowing for visually stunning transitions for in-fight and between-round replays. On the broadcast front, we put in place a number of elements that simplified production challenges, like a simultaneous two-language system allowing for English and Chinese outputs that could be operated by one single-language speaking production staffer. Because the matchup graphics were all database-driven, the many unpredictable factors of a tournament, like translation issues and last-minute changes in cards were never a problem. Bridging the gap between venue displays and broadcast, was a ground-breaking suite of customized apps. From a proprietary fight clock to a stats-tracker offering fans deeper insight into each matchup, we were able to use small screens to add value to the fan experience while expanding sponsorship opportunities. Our instant translations opened the event to a wider audience while our live scoring app transmitted the judges’ point totals across all screens as they happened. All of this was contained in an easy-to-use two-language system, that allowed for broadcast and venue output with a single operator. The result was an unforgettable live event where cutting-edge visuals matched the energy and raw power of some of Asia’s most talented fighters.
